Lowell Area Fire Department
The Lowell Area Fire Department is a formed Fire Authority responding to a variety of calls for help including fire, rescue and emergency medical services covering 60 square miles. The Authority is made up of the City of Lowell, Lowell Township, and Vergennes Township and is governed by a six-person Board. The Board is made up of an elected member and a citizen from each of the three municipalities. The Fire Department has several auto and mutual aid agreements with neighboring townships where they may be called upon to provide assistance in and outside the Authority’s district.
The Department was founded as the Village of Lowell Fire Department in 1860 and became an Authority in 2009.
The Lowell Area Fire Station is located at 315 S. Hudson, near the intersection of Main and Hudson. The station is staffed by the Fire Chief, two part-time firefighter from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday .
Our department members include the Fire Chief, 32 paid-on-call firefighters who may respond to calls for help from their primary place of employment or home but also work scheduled part- time shifts in our station to help ensure efficient service to our community.
